Jan Dan captivated the audience and earned glowing reviews from all four judges, including music legends Reba McEntire, Michael Bublé, Snoop Dogg, and, of course, Gwen Stefani.
"This is a man that chooses notes that are so artistic and beautiful," Stefani said, comparing Dan’s vocal artistry to a painter’s brush. "His voice is absolutely breathtaking."
Jan Dan, born Najee Daniels, created his stage name by reversing the first part of his given name and using the first letters of his last name, his bio on the NBC website says. His musical talent runs deep in the family. His mother, Fundisha, is a singer-songwriter who once landed a record deal with Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def label, moving the family to Atlanta when Jan was just 10.
Jan’s uncle, Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer LaShawn Daniels, was also a major inspiration. Tragically, LaShawn died in a car accident in 2019, leaving Jan devastated but motivated to honor his uncle’s legacy.
Though Jan loved music, he initially took a safer route, enrolling in culinary school after high school. Over the years, however, he grew more confident in his abilities and began writing, recording, and producing music full-time. Inspired by his uncle’s encouragement, Jan decided to push past his fears and pursue music wholeheartedly.
Today, Jan writes songs with his wife, Nicole, as they prepare to welcome their first child. With a growing family and a clear sense of purpose, he believes this is the perfect moment to chase his dreams and build upon his family’s incredible legacy.
